Luke is a Robotics and Autonomous Systems PhD student, having recently joined the FARSCOPE CDT. He has a background in biology and biorobotics, with a strong interest in creating bio-inspired robots and using robotic approaches to improve methods for monitoring manmade and natural environments. His PhD project is centred around creating more adaptable underwater robots able to navigate complex aquatic environments without becoming stuck, gathering data to inform human decision-making. For instance, data collected by these types of robots might be used to effectively conserve fragile ecosystems in habitats such as kelp forests.
He aims to work on PROTEAS projects alongside his PhD, looking for ways in which adaptable robots could be implemented to improve global conservation efforts.
